Military Vehicle Hire

West-Front restores and operates a range of period military vehicles.

These restored vehicles and artillery are used in West-Front displays and re-enactments throughout the year.

These vehicles can also be hired for events, movies and displays.  Please note - this does not include private vehicle hire.

1940 Ford 3-tonne Truck

Fast Facts

  • This truck is one built for use by the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) in WW2.  This can be confirmed through its design including the fold-out windscreen and roof hatch.
  • In the North Africa Campaign 1940-43, the German armed forces used captured Ford trucks to carry supplies and troops.
  • Ford trucks were produced in France, Germany and other occupied countries during WW2 for service with the axis forces.
  • After 1945, Henry Ford successfully sued the US Government for financial damage to Ford factories during Allied bombing raids.

This vehicle was used in the feature film "The Great Raid" filmed at Pimpama and Mt Tamborine in Queensland.

1942 40mm RoF (Royal Ordinance Factory) anti-aircraft gun

Fast Facts

  • Developed by A.B. Bofors of Sweden in 1929 and adopted for use by the British Army in 1938.
  • The 40mm Bofors light anti-aircraft (AA) gun was used extensively by the world's military during and after WW2.
  • The German Army captured and used a number of Bofors guns from France and Poland.
  • Capable of firing a 2lb (1kg) high explosive projectile at 2,800 ft/sec (848m/sec) with a sustained rate of fire of 120 rounds per minute.
  • The maximum ceiling (altitude) was 7,151m but it was more effective at lower altitudes such as 3,787m.
